Stephen started his business in 1985 after taking a BA in photography at Harrow. An AOP member, he works on report & accounts and corporate identity, often overseas and usually in difficult environments, for design groups and clients direct. Stephen is never happier than during the nervous anticipation of a good trip!
Norman Childs has had a very successful award winning career, in running his own business in industrial and architectural photography for the past 30 years. He has been commissioned by many well known clients on assignments in over seventy of the world's countries. Together with his wife Pat he has operated in some of the most remote and hostile terrains imaginable. Norman has a very dynamic approach to marketing that has led to creating niche markets in making his business truly global, with most of his clients headquartered in the US and Europe. John is a photographer and Life Coach. A freelance photographer for over 25 years, John specialises in reportage and documentary photography and has shot features for a number of international publications, including the Sunday Times, the Independent and the Observer magazines, as well as annual report and corporate brochure work for leading design firms and ad agencies in the UK and abroad. A member of the AOP for 15 years he writes regularly for Image magazine and teaches part time at the London College of Printing. Dazeley is an award-winning advertising, fine-art photographer and writer, born and brought up in London. His personal work is an on-going journey of discovery, looking for and photographing people and things he finds visually stimulating. "Making the ordinary look extraordinary is Dazeley's gift," says Sarah Ryder Richardson, who represents Dazeley in the UK.
Nick Dunmur is a professional photographer and a member of the Association of Photographers. He works mainly in the advertising and commercial sectors of the industry and has used various platforms since adopting digital in 1999.
90% of the work he produces is digitally orientated but he still uses film and believes in its continued existence as a means of recording and making pictures.

Philip is a freelance assisting photographer based in London. He graduated from Norwich School of Art & Design in 2009. As a student his work was recognised by both the AOP and D&AD at their annual student awards. Philip has been assisting since graduating and has worked for many high profile international photographers. When he isn't assisting he is supporting his beloved Norwich City FC or out shooting sports.
Neil Horton Stephens
Niall has been representing photographers for over 25 years, mostly in the commercial field but has also had the pleasure of representing such luminaries as Bob Carlos Clarke, Patrick Lichfield and Gered Mankowitz. His agency was probably the first to represent new talent as a distinct section within an agency, the first to represent CGI and a very early adopter of web based promotion of photographers. He’s had the pleasure of working with the AOP on numerous lectures, folio critiques and judging the AOP Awards. He has guest lectured at Blackpool College and the LCC amongst others. He was a founder of the trade body PhotoAgentsLondon which seeks to establish industry best practice.
Chief Executive Officer of the British Copyright Council since 1998, Janet is also copyright consultant to the Broadcast Entertainment Cinematograph and Theatre Union (BECTU) and a freelance consultant. Whilst working for the Association of Photographers (AOP) in the 1980’s, Janet realised that a lack of copyright awareness lay at the heart of many of its members’ problems. She was AOP staff member responsible for the Magazine Action Group in the mid 1980's, was instrumental in developing and negotiating the Base Usage Rate system with advertising agencies and prioritised the development of legal and professional practice services for members and, through the then Committee on Photographic Copyright, she also campaigned successfully for changes in UK copyright law. Janet has twice been Managing Director of the Association of Photographers (1984-1992 and 2005-2007). Between 1992 and 1998 she was Deputy Chief Executive of the Design & Artists Copyright Society and was responsible for developing it as the UK collecting society for all visual artists including photographers. She also worked on developing a first policy for DACS on licensing what were then the ‘new technologies’. During her time at DACS, Janet chaired, or was a member of, a number of European and international committees within IFRRO and CISAC. She has also been a Vice Chairman of the Educational Recording Agency (ERA). Janet has also worked on a number of research projects within the Creative Industries, her most recent in 2012 being a Feasibility Study for the ARROW Project on the incorporation of diligent search of artists and works which have been included in books, a project with implications for orphan works and the digitisation of collections. Her work for the British Copyright Council keeps her at the centre of legislative developments and well informed on industry views.
Simon has spent 25 years in the photographic industry working in a variety of disciplines and studying through colleges in Gloucester and Blackpool. He has always understood the significance and importance of maintaining rights for the individual creator, which lead to a greater involvement with the Association from 2007. Philip Lee Harvey
Born in Canterbury, England in 1969, Philip completed a Graphic Design degree at the Norwich School of Art and Design, before going on to assist some of the UK’s leading advertising photographers. Eager to develop his photographic career, he soon started taking on editorial and advertising commissions of his own. Since then, he has worked in over 100 countries, in environments ranging from Antarctica to the Sahara desert. His journeys have taken him to some of the world’s most inhospitable and demanding destinations.
Philip has won numerous awards including ones given by the Association of Photographers, Creative Circle, Royal Photographic Society, John Kobal, Travel Photographer of the Year, the International Colour Awards and Campaign magazine.
Having worked for the Association of Photographers for eight years Ella is now freelancing as a Project Co-ordinator. Whilst at the AOP Ella worked on education, events and awards.
After studying photography and graduating in 1991 Conor began working in the UK as a photographer in the Midlands in 1994. In 1997 he moved to London and began working as a full time and then freelance assistant to a variety of photographers working for advertising, design and fashion clients.
Since making the transition from assistant to full time photographer he has shot location and portrait work for advertising. He has revised his original contribution to Beyond the Lens, written at the end of his assisting career, and brought it up to date in 2012.
Ian graduated in Fine Art from Brighton in 1976 and has been a freelance illustrator and photographer since 1981. In 1984 he was one of the first people in Britain to own an Apple Macintosh. He has used Photoshop & 3d programs from their very inception and closely followed their development. Ian and the Macintosh have grown together.
He specializes in 3D & cgi photo-realism and works for a wide variety of design, advertising & editorial clients. His library images are represented by Getty.

After graduating with a degree in photography from Blackpool College in 1995, Richard opened his east London studio in 2000. Quickly establishing himself within the industry his eye for detail and obsession with ‘getting it right’ earned him respect and admiration in equal measures from his peers. Considered and meticulous Richard’s work is perfection in the world of still life advertising photography. His award winning images are both challenging and fascinating and his controlled use of studio lighting is an art form in itself. Paul started his career in photography with a small general practise studio in 1977 in Liverpool. After being an assistant with this company and then as a staff photographer with a multi-national industrial business, Paul moved into the wide world of the self- employed in 1987. Since then he has specialised in both corporate and architectural location photography. Architecture and the built environment are now his passion and he works with a select group of construction and architectural clients for assignments around the world. As a ‘Liverpudlian’ he has a keen interest in the resurgence of the City and is regularly commissioned as photographer for books and articles as well as providing images from his own collection of Liverpool which he shoots for his own pleasure for use in advertising / marketing but also as an historical record.

After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, Paul worked on the financial side of commerce for a number of years, mostly in creative fields – in industries including fashion, journalism, and music. He then moved into practice and worked with Vic Goodman, an accountant specialising in the world of commercial photography and related fields. Following Vic’s untimely death nearly 20 years ago, Paul took on Goodmans’ clients and developed the practice, now called Rochman Goodmans, continuing to specialise and expand as accountants for photographers and others working in creative fields. His clientele includes sole traders, partnerships and limited companies. Grant is an Australian born photographer, who has lived and worked in London for the last 30 years. During that time he has captured the changing face of the city and developed an extensive knowledge of London’s architecture. It was on one of his architectural assignments in the City that he first encountered the unwelcome effect of the Terrorism Act 2000 on working photographers. As one of the organizers of ‘I’m a Photographer, not a Terrorist’, he has become a leading spokesperson for photographers’ rights while working in public. Smith also lectures on photography at City Lit and runs photo tours of the City.
Charles Swan has been the AOP’s solicitor since 1990 and was its first non-photographer director. He heads the Photography group at media law firm Swan Turton and advises photographers on copyright and other legal issues.
Anne Mannion is a solicitor in Swan Turton’s Photography group who specialises in copyright enforcement and other dispute resolution matters.
Gwen began working at the AOP in 1987. Currently the Executive Director of Business and Legal Affairs and Company Secretary of the AOP, Gwen has been advising members on copyright, contract and ethical problems; negotiating on behalf of members; lobbying for photographers rights; responding to Government papers on proposed legislation affecting photographers; and lecturing on copyright and ethics since 1992. She is a Director of the British Copyright Council, representing the visual arts, and as General Manager of Pyramide Europe Ltd. Gwen is involved with ensuring the European Commission are aware of the needs of visual artists when legislation is discussed and prior to directives being issued. She represented visual arts on the Copyright Licensing & Steering Group, formed in 2012, and tasked with overseeing the implementation of the primary recommendations of the report to Government ‘Copyright Works: Streamlining copyright licensing for the digital age’ and ensuring continued cross-sector collaboration focused on further streamlining of copyright licensing.
Andrew behan a career in photojournalism working with Simon Guttman of Report, London, in 1975, and was the main photographer there during the 1980's. He represented the National Union of Journalists on the British Copyright Council during the campaign for copyright reform resulting in the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988.He is a founder memer of EPUK (www.epuk.org) and Stop43 (www.stop43.org.uk), is on the Board of the British Press Photographers' Assocuiation and on the NUJ's Photographers' Council.
