Mission statement
The Association of Photographers Limited (‘AOP’) recognises that it has a responsibility to the environment beyond legal and regulatory requirements. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and continually improving our environmental performance as an integral part of our business strategy and operating methods, with regular review points. We will encourage our members, suppliers and other stakeholders to do the same.
Responsibility
The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring that the environmental policy is implemented. However, all employees and board members have a responsibility within their area to ensure that the aims and objectives of the policy are met.
Policy aims
We endeavour to:
- Comply with and exceed all relevant regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and make year-on-year improvements wherever able, to environmental targets.
- Incorporate environmental factors into business operations.
- Increase employee awareness of environmental policy.
- Work towards a carbon-neutral footprint through all means available.
Paper
- We will minimise the use of paper in the office.
- We will reduce unnecessary and non-recyclable packaging as much as possible.
- We will seek to buy recycled and recyclable paper products.
- We will reuse and recycle all used paper where possible.
Energy and water
- We will seek to reduce the amount of energy used as much as possible.
- We will work with our landlords and our tenants to ensure that they are committed to improving their carbon footprint.
- On occasions where we are able to choose our energy provider, we will favour green energy providers.
- Lights and electrical equipment will be switched off when not in use.
- Heating will be adjusted with energy consumption in mind.
- The energy consumption and efficiency of new products will be taken into account when purchasing.
Office supplies
- We will evaluate if any requirement for such can be fulfilled with the minimum environmental impact..
- We will evaluate if renting/sharing is an option before purchasing equipment.
- We will evaluate the environmental impact of any new products we intend to purchase.
- We will favour more environmentally-friendly and efficient products wherever possible.
- We will always endeavour not to purchase any single-use plastic products.
- Where plastic products are purchased, we will seek to use them on more than one occasion.
- We will reuse and recycle as much as we can.
Transportation
- We will reduce the need to travel, restricting to necessary trips only.
- We will promote the use of travel alternatives such as e-mail or video/phone conferencing.
- We will make additional efforts to accommodate the needs of those using public transport or bicycles.
Maintenance and cleaning
- Materials used in the AOP office will be as environmentally-friendly as possible.
- We will only use licensed and appropriate organisations to dispose of waste, when required.
Monitoring and improvement
- We will comply with and exceed all relevant regulatory requirements.
- We will continually monitor environmental performance.
- We will continually endeavour to improve and reduce environmental impacts.
- We will incorporate environmental factors into business decisions.
- We will increase employee awareness through training.
- We will review this policy and any related business issues at our staff and management meetings.
Culture
- We will involve staff in the implementation of this policy, for greater commitment and improved performance.
- We will review this policy at least once annually in consultation with staff and other stakeholders where necessary.
- We will provide staff with relevant training.
- We will work with members, suppliers, contractors and sub-contractors to help them improve their environmental performance.
- We will use local labour and materials wherever possible to reduce carbon emissions and help the community.

This policy sets out how The Association of Photographers Limited (AOP) uses and protects any information that you give to the AOP when you use this website.
The AOP is committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. Should we ask you to provide certain information from which you can be identified when using this website, then you can be assured that it will only be used in accordance with this privacy statement and with the requirements laid down by law in the Data Protection Act (DPA) 1998, The Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations (PECR) 2003 and the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2018. We are registered as a data controller with the Information Commissioner’s Office under registration number Z464500X.
The AOP may change this policy from time to time by updating this page. You should check this page from time to time to ensure that you are happy with any changes. This policy is effective from 9th February 2018.
What we collect

- Your name, username or AOP membership number and job title
- Contact information including your email address, postal address and telephone number
- Demographic information such as postcode, preferences and interests
- Other information relevant to customer surveys and/or offers provided by us
What we do with the information we gather
We require this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, and in particular for the following reasons:
- Internal record-keeping and to administer any account that you might have with us.

Security
We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. All your information is stored either electronically on our secure servers or in the case of paper documentation, in secured cabinets only accessible by the Data Controller or those nominated as AOP Data Processors.
